There was one great entry where I was FURIOUS at my group I was working on a project with, because no one was taking it seriously enough (I think this was a little mini-opera we had to write for music class), and it's all I talked about for days,

Hahahah, I had a shockingly similar incident in my 8th grade one! Except apparently I gave up and quit the group (it was an optional project or something-- I was unclear about that). I had absolutely no recollection of this incident.

I was also really cagey about personal stuff in my middle school ones. I know for a fact it wasn't until ninth grade I ever had the nerve to refer to a boy I liked by name in my (personal at-home!) journals, and that was after I liked him for about three months.

One of the things the lady who wrote the book that got me freewriting again said over and over was that people write best when they're not trying to impress people with their writing. It was really obviously true in these journals! I also loved to show off in my journals, and those parts WERE the most embarrassing parts to read!

I don't know that I've ever really written without the intention of impressing somebody. Even if it's something I never show to anyone, I keep in mind that I might someday. Maybe that's my problem.
