Honestly?
I really delayed writing this post.
The reason is simple really.
Whilst watching this episode, heart said "me no likey". Brain agreed. Let's see why, shall we?
First off, I am sorry if I come off as too harsh. If I anger, it is because I love. For me to not feel anger at something at some point means that I probably do not care for it. And indifference is worse than any emotion, in my opinion. With that out of the way~
I WILL FIND THIS WRITER AND SHOVE SOME SENSE INTO THEM, THROUGH THAT PLACE WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? IS IT THAT HARD TO WRITE ABOUT THE TWO RIGHT PEOPLE IN LOVE? BECAUSE IF IT IS, SCOOCH OVER, BECAUSE EVEN AN AMATEUR FANFIC WRITER LIKE ME CAN DO IT BETTER.
Looking at gifs makes me happeh~
I'm sorry, what were we talking about? Clearly the trauma from that episode has not dissipated.
If you failed to realise from that allcaps and general madness above, I really didn't like this episode. and whilst I will grudgingly admit that the HyugaxMakoto scenes were mega-kitties-adorable there really weren't enough of them for me to salvage it.
For starters, it was draggy. The company storyline, while interesting and somewhat necessary, feels like it is circling round and round without actually going anywhere. This is a big problem if you're, say, watching for banter and cuteness and not boardroom machinations.
Secondly, the way the Asahinas have been written. While the acting from them is stellar, the writing... is not. Again, it keeps on feeling like we're circling the same ground. We understand that Kosuke is on the path to eeevvvillll, and we understand that Yoko may have some predestined lingering thingies with Hyuga. Please don't beat us over the head with it. Especially while you're keeping the OTP apart.
Basically the above two points are me saying that the episode was like a bad Inu Yasha filler episode in which Kikyou and Inu Yasha seem to have found each other, Kagome gets kicked to the curb and is harassed by Kagura, Shippo the harbinger of cute is only seen for a second, and everyone is unhappy.
But. I have yet to say the most important point why this episode sucked, ESPECIALLY compared to the other episodes: HYUGA MADE OUT WITH YOKO AND MAKOTO WAS IGNORED. AGAIN.
This.
Is.
Blasphemy.
Second leads done right are wonderful.
We have all swooned over Rui and his many incarnations, felt stabs in the heart for Horse, Sir Crazy and wanted to hug Nakatsu to our ample...or maybe not so ample... bosoms.
Second leads done wrong- and the almost always are if they are female- will make you want to kill.
I wanted to stab the Asahinas with sporks.
I dreamt of it.
I'm a bad person.
I'm only a little sorry.
But I digress. To be honest, the episode wasn't completely shitty. Not only did we have the few saviour-like minutes of Natsui making kawaii faces and OTP interaction (as mentioned above), but a majority of the scenes with Natsui and Asahina Kosuke were pretty cute and funny.
If, y'know, you can put aside the fact that Kosuke is a rapscallion who needs to be sentenced to a thousand lashes.
Maybe it's just that Ishihara Satomi has chemistry with everyone she acts with.
Shit.
I shouldn't have said that.
Now I want to watch her with Sato Takeru in Romeo and Juliet.
Also note that it's the only time I actually want to watch Romeo and Juliet.
Imagine Sato Takeru and Ishihara Satomi with Mid-atlantic English accents.
Jarring incongruence or utter sublimeness, one wonders...
Anyway, back to topic, the preview for episode 7 (which can be read
here)
The preview makes me think that everything that has been happening until now- the company issues, the Asahinas, the fact that Hyuga and Makoto are kinda sorta made for each other- will come to a head. This, while making me a bit annoyed (see circling issues in points one and two), also make me happy, because it feels like once everything is resolved, we shall get what we want. I'd rather see the efforts Hyuga et. al. make towards rebuilding a company more awesome than before than just drown in the politics that occurs, both in the company and in matters of the heart. Beyond that, I'm not saying anything, because I want to keep a sunny outlook for this show and end on a happy note. Thankies for reading my... words spewed due to random idiocy? I'm extremely sorry if I rambled too much or went off topic a lot. See, this is why I need an editor.
