hey- as you know. i never say anything on my livejournal. i'm too busy living.
here's what i've been up to.
this month, i have seen a lot of shows.
i'm not sure if i can name them all. I am a lucky guy to see what I see. Lucky me. Lucky me. Lucky me.
Here they are:
Thursday October 7th 2004 The Roxy
The Killers w/Ambulance LTD. and Surferrosa. The Killers blew the roof off the place. I was in the 6th row. Tickets were sold out and I roamed the line. One of the bouncers at The Roxy said that if I paid him $35, he'd get me in. Luckily, this guy named Shannon saw me and knew that I was flying solo, so he gave me the extra spot on the guest list he had. I paid him $15.00 for it. I was in. I met a bunch of really cool people at the show. Ambulance LTD. is a good band, but the acoustics of the room did not suit them well. Surferrosa. They were bad. They're like a bad version of The Sounds, and their bass player looks like Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. They're from Norway. Hell, everything's from Sweden and Norway. I met them, they are nice people. We talked about global politics and why a fairly significant amount of bad metal music comes from Norway and Sweden. One of the stage tech's for The Killers, got my poster signed. Thanks, dude!
Monday October 11th, 2004 Avalon
Interpol w/Secret Machines and Hail Social. Worked that show with Garrett and a new girl named Ada. She's cool. We got a lot of people to sign up. Hail Social was alright. Saw Maddy for the first time since The Hives, she's working with me now. Secret Machines put on a good show. I've met them before, but I had never seen their live set. I met them on April 9th, when I was working coat check at The Paradise, we were chatting while they were selling merch. They gave me a pin and a bunch of stickers to give away. That was the day before Death Cab and my first "show vacation", where I subsequently saw many more shows after that. Interpol was awesome. They never fail to put on a brilliant show. Go see them if you have the chance. As a matter of fact they're playing 11-8 at Lupo's at the Strand in Providence.
Tuesday October 12th, 2004 The Roxy.
The Faint w/TV on The Radio and Beep Beep. I was supposed to be working that show with Music For America. At that show, I would have been handing out issue cards and voter registration forms because the next day was the deadline for voter registration in Massachusetts. If you haven't registered. For shame. For shame. If you're too young, it's not your fault. But a few problems arose. We had trouble getting in because security at The Roxy is like the Gestappo, and they didn't have us on the list. I was working with someone named Linda, coincidentally we both go to Bunker Hill Community College. Her for sociology and me for media technology. Luckily, we ran into a member of The Faint, and he got us our contact. We got in. Here's where the other problem occurs. The Faint lost all of our materials, so we couldn't do anything. I even brought my signed Death Cab For Cutie clipboard. So we were just able to go see the show for free. Linda went into the balcony somewhere and I was on the floor with Ian and his friend Tiel. She's cool. They all put on good sets. During The Faint, I had to usher some chick out of the crowd cause she was exhaused and dehydrated. She was ok. She'll play a role at the next show. The Faint did a good cover of "Psycho Killer" from Talking Heads and there were dance pits all over the place. It was so much fun. I saw David after the show and suprisingly he was in the front row. By choice, he's never in the front row. He said it was worth it this time and would try to work with Music For America the next night. Go see The Faint the next time they come, you'll have a blast.
Friday October 15 Avalon
Coheed and Cambria w/Underoath and 3. That show was the show where I was showing Alix and Tyler how to work shows. It was raining, so we had to do some of it from the inside of the venue. It was chaos. Ran into Carolyn, Liz, and a bunch of other people. We got a lot of signatures. 3 was an interesting band they had a drummer and a guy on latin percussion. They really complemented each other really well. I was impressed. Underoath, as usual, put on a very frenetic show. I was sad to see that one of their guitar players was showing off his "W in 2004" sticker that was on the back of his guitar. I'm sad to see that some christians are gullible. I think that being a Republican is a character flaw. But I enjoyed the set. Coheed blew the roof off of the place. When they played warped, they were drunk and weren't playing as well as they could have, but this time they were on fire. In the end, I was drenched in sweat and a good time was had by all.
I must run. I'd love to type some more about the shows i've been to this month, and I will. But I must be leaving to get to work.
Take care.
