Promotion?

Looks like my promotion might be coming early. Re-definition of roles, really.

My immediate boss was out for 2 months on emergency medical leave. HIS boss found it impossible to get anything done.

He realized that having too many tasks in the hands of a manager means the manager can't really MANAGE, or organize the department such that there is a transparent work flow in the event of a disaster/absence.

So, our sprawling department is being divided up into sub-groups. Each sub-group will have a team leader with a specific set of duties, and will report to one of the 2 bosses.

There will be a clear definition of duties, a clear chain of command, alternates appointed in case of absence/illness, cross-training...

The Type-A part of me (which is nearly all of me!) is DANCING A JIG right now!

I will be responsible for employee training for at least a section of our department. Internal employees, including the new UK Cambridge employees, which start July 1. The phrase was "extended period of international travel for training purposes."

Nothing would make me happier than to bet to travel in order to train both our internal employees and the companies that sell our software. I could practice my language skills, build my resume...

I am really excited about this. It reinforces the hope I had that my bosses still find me a valuable asset to the department, and are willing to allow me to move onward and upward in the company.

I will take this new postion, which may not be an more $, but will be great for experience, and use it towards my BS in Global eCommerce. Hopefully I'll get my acceptance letter from the college this summer. If not, I'll get in during next spring, but as long as I take classes at the college, they will count them towards my degree. This particular program for which I am applying is very liberal in what it will accept for credits.

I actually have enough credits for a BS. But not enough of the right type in the right area. Minimum, a half-dozen classes will do that. I will probably stretch it out a bit, based on the academic advisor's counsel, and take more like 9.

And I'll finally have my BS in a busines related field, which means that I can apply for project management and other supervisory positions, and I can get paid more and hopefully work closer to home.

My goal? Pay the house off early. In 15 years, if I can, instead of 30. Faster, if I get a big jump in pay. All that equity, a whole lot less paid in interest, and then I won't have ANY major bills. Early retirement, here I come!
