New replicas of unproduced Micropolis construction sets!

Aug 10, 2009 00:13

Paul Wasson recently surprised the Micronauts, Microman, Mego, and Henshin Cyborg community with his upscaled Dash Wing set created on a laser cutter.  After seeing this work and how it was made from his posts at Micropolis Embassy, I suggested another possible item that could be made with a laser cutter would be a replica of the unproduced prototype Micropolis sets that appeared in early Micronauts catalogs (courtesy InnerSpace Online) and the Michael Golden comic issues .  Others joined the discussion and Paul got excited about it and has been working on making a new version of these never-before-produced sets that is "forward-compatible" with the released Micropolis sets (which uses different sized tiles and a different kind of connector piece).  The early test results so far are stunning and filled with possibilities!

Rockettubes updates have been dry for a while since the interviews, not due to lack of subject matter, but because of a few outside factors I hope to have dealt with by next week or so.   I have a big backlog of some exciting stuff to share though, so please keep checking back and things should pick up here pretty soon.   I'll try to squeak in some more quickie posts if possible in the meantime...

Be sure to check out Jack Szwergold's huge mother lode of Microman catalog scans on Flickr, too.  I'm going to be jumping into those and translating some here and there as time permits.
