The short version: The rig is still running, I am still in AZ, good thing I gave myself extra time, I *HATE* the heat.
So today started out not so bad. I was on the road, doing ok. The first issue was right after I got gas. I was pulling out of the gas station and a very nice man was honking to get my attention. I stopped and he came over to the rig and handed me a piece of metal that looked kinda like a lug nut. He said it fell off one of my tires when I turned out of the gas station. I of course freaked out. Then about 1/4 mile down the road I found a place that advertised tire repair. I pulled in and was informed that this was not an actual lug nut, just a nut that holds on my hub caps. He grabbed a wrench and put it back on, and checked the other ones as well. OK, no big deal, things are back to being OK.
Then I had lunch with
fairietink and her man J. A good lunch at a faboo chinese buffet. Thanks again guys. Things were still going ok. Then I hit the 17 and I was still in Phoenix. A little traffic, but it was moving. Things were still going OK. Then it happened.
And alarm started to sound telling me my leveling jacks were down. I pulled over to the side of the highway and promptly freaked out. Then I tried the simple stuff. Trying to hit the "store" button, trying to drop the jack and pick it back up. Nothing worked.
I ended up calling the roadside assistance I purchased at camping world and they sent someone out. Actually about 2 minutes before he got the call, he drove past me in the opposite direction, so he knew exactly where I was. *lol*
He got the jack back up so the alarm would shut up, but it's not a permanent fix. I will have to take it in when I get back east. I *could* stop somewhere along the way, but it's a long process. They usually need a week or so to get an appointment. Then it's a couple of days to get approval because it's a warranty repair. Then it can take weeks and weeks to get the part. I don't want to do that out here. As long as it drives, we're cool. I just won't put the the jacks down until then. *lol*
It was 118 degrees today, 108 in the rig. And I was stuck on the side of the road for about 3 hours. At least when I was standing outside there was a breeze...
Then I found out my seat isn't moving either. At least it's in a relatively good position for driving. I just can't move the slide out. Of course it's supposed to be level before you put the slide out, so I guess it doesn't matter, now does it??
Then there was the problem with the AC. Last night it was working in the back, but making horrible noises in the front {2 separate units}. Tonight when I turned it on, it wasn't sounding too good in either area. I shut it off, and then turned it back on, making sure the fans where set to medium instead of high or auto. That seems to be helping. Of course after 2 hours, it's still 86 degrees, but it *is* getting better...
Then there's the shower. Since it's been sooooo hot out, my water tank has been heated without the benefit of my water heater. I pulled into an RV park tonight and they lock the bathrooms. They don't write the code down anywhere, so if you're checking in after hours you're SOL. Luckily I saw someone walking back from the bathroom and he was nice enough to tell me the code. I got to take a cool shower in a nicely air conditioned bathroom. Maybe when I wake up, the RV will be cool too.
I have only made it another 250 miles. Not the ideal, but this is why I padded my schedule. I can only hope I don't have too many more problems. And be thankful that so far the problems have been small and easily fixed.
I lived here for 4 months, during the summer. Was it this hot?? Or is it just that my apartment was never 108 degrees???
