BACKSTORY - TEAM ROCKET
Team Rocket is no longer the powerful organization it once was. Years ago there was a shift in power that came with the founding of the Surrogate Project. I have never believed in luck - but it was sheer chance that I happened to find out about the Project. I was offered an ultimatum - serve Team Rocket eternally as a mindless fool like the Grunts, or offer what I knew in exchange for my memories and a throne of power within the Surrogate Project's ranks.
My choice was obvious. Loyalty means nothing in comparison to wealth and power. Our boss chose differently. He chose to stand against Lord Geechisu - to stand against the Surrogate Project. His mind was wiped once, then twice, then time and time again as he continued to retain a few scattered memories. Had I been in charge of things, he wouldn't have been left with any memories at all. Then I would have been left in charge of Team Rocket - and quite obviously Lord Geechisu did not want me to reach my lofty goal so easily.
Our world is a double-edged sword. It is not an easy one to navigate. You pick the wrong side, you die. You pick the right side, you risk losing everything. It is not an easy world to live in. There are those who would trade it for a peaceful, risk-free life. I wouldn't. I am content with the way this world works. Ultimately I will always side with the victor. There is no reason to risk losing.
Giovanni was on the losing side. Team Rocket is on the losing side. It is only a matter of time before I take control and change that. There is ultimately no escape from the path that has been laid before us. I endeavor to achieve my goals - no matter who gets in my way.
