"We've told you what happened a million times already!" Yamato was getting more agitated by the second. "What more do you want to know? Do you think we're lying?"
"Calm down, Yamato." He rubbed her neck comfortingly. "I'm sure they just want to know as much about this new threat as possible." He shot a friendly smile towards the head inspector who was questioning them. "This is stressful for her. Can we take a break?"
He nodded and set his pen down. "Can I go see Nanako?" Yamato pulled Kosaburou up from his chair. "I need to see her. Do you think she'll be alright?"
"I'm sure she's fine. They said she was stable and comfortable, and we signed the papers for them to do all those tests on her. We'd better not disturb the doctors and nurses while they're examining her." Kosaburou got her a paper cup of cool water. "Let's just finish answering their questions, alright? The sooner they know what they need to the sooner we can go visit Nanako."
"Fine." Yamato scowled, downed the last of her water, and stormed back into the statement room. Kosaburou sighed and followed her. Patience was not her strong suit, but he hoped this session would end without any casualties.
Two hours later, Yamato burst through the doors of the infirmary. "I'm here for Nanako, my ward." She announced breathlessly to the receptionist. Kosaburou ran in after her.
"I don't know where you get your energy from," He panted. The receptionist led Yamato to a hospital bed, curtained off from the rest of the infirmary. Wires were coming off of her chest and there was an IV in her arm. Yamato felt sick to her stomach but didn't move.
"Is she going to be alright?" She asked the head nurse, swallowing her fear.
"It seems so." She smiled at Yamato. "Her heartrate and breathing have been normal since she was brought in a couple of days ago. She's just not waking up, and we don't know why."
Yamato leaned over the bed and kissed Nanako on the forehead. "My poor baby." She smoothed her hair. "What a week, huh? I'm so sorry we left you alone for so long. But Kosa and I are both home now."
"Ama..." Nanako stirred under her. "Ama ko hee..." Her eyes fluttered open, and the nurse dropped her clipboard.
"What did you do to her?" She demanded. "We tried everything we knew to wake her up!"
Yamato shrugged. "I guess she got tired of waiting and fell asleep until I came home." She gave Nanako a stern look. "Don't do that again. It scares people."
Nanako laughed. "Su see ama..."
Yamato smiled. Despite the past few days, Nanako's laughter still had the power to soothe her anger and hurt. She hugged her sister, being careful not to disturb the IV. "Get better soon, silly, so we can take you back home."
