Just a little weird thing I cooked up, a little bit for Downtime, a little bit for a Christmas thing.
"Dr. Yung's Engima Shadow Holiday"
He never was the type to celebrate many things, especially not holidays. He more looked forward to the day when the world truly quivered under his thumb, even when his colleagues put such desires aside to celebrate at the end of the year.
"Bah, such things are useless! I wish they'd turn that damn music down!" he grumbled as he brushed a bang of his bluegreen hair out of his face. "Some people still want to work on what Enigma Shadow actually exists to do..."
He tried to continue his work, typing away on a computer attached to some sort of machine in his darkened lab. The fruit of his labor hung suspended in a tank of green fluid not far away, not living but seemingly observing him with its blank eyes attached to its barely-formed, mostly tentacular body.
Typing....typing....typing......
"AHAH!" a voice suddenly shouted outside. "Now it's your turn, Brandon---roll the dice, if you DARE!"
"Hmph. I hate it when you control half of an entire side of the board..."
He smacked his head and sighed. The racket outside his laboratory door was being caused by two of the Commanders, Brandon and Snattle, playing some sort of board game and probably getting stone-faced drunk while doing it. Theoretically, he was supposed to be above the Commanders in rank, but Queen Shadow always allowed them to order him around instead.
And he hated it. He hated being ordered around by all four of them... Brandon was just some weird guy who loved archeology, Candice dressed like underage jailbait, Ardos always got preferential treatment. But Snattle was the worst. He couldn't stand being commanded by someone like Snattle, especially if---as Snattle was---that person was a little too feminine for comfort.
"SHUT UP!" he shouted. "I'm trying to work!"
"Oh, you're such a killjoy, Yung!" came the reply in Snattle's feminine voice. By this time he'd already determined Snattle was, in fact, completely intoxicated.
"Ugh..."
He never understood it. For the leader of a group with designs on world domination if not more, Queen Shadow was sure to let her followers always get off with shirking work around the holidays.
Holdiays... that one word seemed to bring so much joy to all of them, yet he did not share that joy. What was the meaning of it all?
He remembered holidays when he was a boy. But that was long, long in the past, before Enigma Shadow and Mirage Pokémon and Shadow Pokémon and now the Dark Styler. That was back when they were still with him, before that horrible project commissioned by Team Rocket took them away forever.
He cursed the whole idea under his breath. Team Rocket was small-time, just a bunch of hoods wishing to get rich quick. Why would they have ever needed such a thing? Yet, they tried to make it, and it took everything from him. The failure of Team Rocket's attempt, though, motivated him to create it himself, if for no other reason than to make sure their sacrifices weren't in vain.
He was lost in these angry thoughts when there came a rapping on his metal door, startling him.
"Who is it?!" he shouted as he quickly maneuvered to hide the contents of his computer screen.
And he wasn't happy when he saw who it was----Candice. The loli jailbait Commander. Ironically, he thought with a smirk, this girl was once the Gym Leader of a city called Snowpoint, yet she dressed in completely inappropriate attire, including a tiny, short skirt and barely-there T-shirt.
Strangely, however, she was carrying a wrapped package, too.
"What do you want, Candice?" he growled.
"Dr. Yung, sir..." -Candice was the only one who ever respected him out of the Commanders- "...I felt badly for you. You've been locked in your lab for so long and it's the holidays. I just thought... I should give you something to help brighten things up."
He scoffed. Brighten things up? Things weren't supposed to be bright for him! Yet, he took the package anyway and carefully opened it.
Inside was something surprising---a fiery red Entei pelt, complete with a false head. Something he'd actually wanted, to complete his collection---he already owned a Raikou pelt and Suicune pelt, but could never find the Entei pelt in any store.
"See, doesn't that put a smile on your face?" Candice suggested, ever the chipper one. "I knew you didn't have that, so I thought when I saw it while I was shopping, why not?"
He just stared at the young Commander before him. He'd never gotten any other member of Enigma Shadow a gift before, not even Queen Shadow, yet here was Candice giving him something he really geniunely desired.
Holidays.
Maybe they did have meaning to someone like him after all....even if it was just something he could bother those foolish kids with.
