Mod time! As you can see, we've had to put off adding some characters to the interests page because we're almost at capacity. So I turn to you--out of the 141 interests we have, which ones do you think we should cut?
For instance, I have no idea who Elizabeth is, nor Kamiya (aside from Tai that is, but that's a different series). And is Rui the one from the GC games? If so, was she really a team member or did that slip past me?
I'm also still not sure if the Rocket leader from Golden Boys is Grey or Gray, so I put up both spellings. If anyone here has the Singaporian English edition, can you clarify this?
And no, I'm not cutting "Attila" or "Hun", because if I cut them I'd have to cut everyone else's English names. Besides, they're not the dumbest names up there ("Snattle"? "Naps"?). And without "Hun", we wouldn't have Humbolt, and everyone loves Humbolt.
And now the fun stuff! I was wondering what kinds of stuff you all include in your backstories. Like what you see working in the past. Since I have a framework I tend to work from, I was wondering what everyone else's is like.
Some points from mine:
-Giovanni's family used to be nobility, but they were deposed a long time ago. Ever since, they've plotted to regain their former glory, and it's grown from reclaiming that area to ruling the world. Despite this, there's no Team law that says that it has to remain in the rule of the same family.
-Madame Boss wasn't stupid--far from it--she was just more concerned about making money, since you can't take over the world if you don't have the funds to back it up. She figured she'd build the Team up financially first and some future leader could worry about the actual takeovers. However, she didn't want it to be as early as the next leader, which is why she considered Giovanni a "brat" and somewhat of a hothead, so they fought frequently over their differing styles of rule.
-She was killed by some of her personal staff, and Giovanni was immediately suspected, since the last time he saw her, they ended things in a screaming fit. He wasn't behind it at all, but didn't do much to quell the suspicions because he liked the impression it gave that people needed to watch themselves around him.
-Giovanni used to be rather distant from the Team, since he wanted to distance himself from his "foolish" mother. But his want to be powerful overrode it when he decided that being Gym Leader wasn't enough (a rank he achieved when he was seventeen).
-He has a tendency to test his limits with pretty much everyone, from the lowliest agent to the most powerful. He has to prove that he's dominant, especially with people (and pokémon as we see with Mewtwo) that he suspects may be able to harm him. Of course, as we saw, that can lead him to *being* harmed, but it's very rare for someone to take a stand to oppose him...openly, anyway.
-Domino's parents were Elite officers, and when they got married, they were given a large sum from the Team to raise their child to be the best. However, her parents died soon after she joined officially, and their other lives were revealed.
-Vicious has never given the Team his real identity. When he joined, he had been a runaway and an underground fighter, basically on a downward spiral. But the Rockets recognized his talent as a fighter and hired him as a field agent. He'd also never trained a pokémon before joining.
-Bashou and Buson also both were runaways. Bashou had gotten into a fight with his parents and left after being threatened, while Buson...well, ask
ket_makura for that since I use the backstory she came up with.
-Bashou's icy demeanor comes from when he was a child and got very sick, to the point where he nearly died. Such a brush with mortality redid his personality, and he considers emotional demonstration to be useless (not like Cyrus who considers emotions *themselves* to be useless, with Bashou it's just showing them). It's also what stunted his growth.
-Buson wears sunglasses because they were a gift from Bashou. On an early mission, he'd been temporaraly blinded and was photo sensitive for some time.
-Wendy once had a crush on a certain confident agent. But when said agent stiffed her on a drink, well then!
-Archie and Maxie met in college and bonded over their grand ideas to change the world. However, they would get into the fiercest arguements in Environmental Science class...and then sneak off to make out in the boathouse.
-Isabel and Harlan also knew each other for a long time, and also had a former romantic relationship. But they found themselves on opposite sides and so forced themselves to hate the other.
-Those agents wound up with their respective leaders, and no one involved could tell their new lovers about their feelings for anyone else.
-Bogie is a Magma undercover, sent to spy on Butler. But he became a trinket vendor for real once the Team dissolved.
-Brody was always fascinated with constants in humans and how to change them, such as appearence, gender, etc, which is how he came to be the "man of a thousand faces" as we know him.
And that's all I have really.
Just a reminder, possible spoilers for unwritten fics may abound! Be warned!
