As promised on my LJ, I wrote some Diamondshipping fanfiction for you all. Coincidentally (conveniently) the theme this week is Love, so this may be the first time in a long time I wrote for the theme. Enjoy.
74. Pancakes
"You really shouldn't be here, you know." Delia eyed the door nervously. "You're not supposed to be here, not now."
"You agreed to it, dear," Giovanni said. "I'm afraid it's a bit late to change your mind now. Seeing as we're both in the living room." The two were on the couch, and had barely spoken a word to each other since Giovanni's arrival ten minutes ago. "Unless you want me to leave already." He reached his arm around Delia's shoulder and she shivered.
"No, no, it's just... what if someone sees?" she asked. His touch was so cold... but reassuring.
"They're not going to," he whispered. "Just relax, dear... we're finally together. Alone. It's Valentine's Day, after all. No one should be alone today. Especially not you. You mean everything to me, you know."
"I know..." Delia said. "It's just been so long... we weren't supposed to see each other again this soon, and-"
"And I wanted to make up all the lost time," Giovanni interrupted. "But afternoon tea isn't much of a date, is it?" He ran his hand up and down her arm. Her skin was so warm, so soft, so clean, and brought memories rushing back. Bittersweet memories. "I was wondering... maybe I could stay longer? Maybe we could watch a movie, have a nice romantic dinner, with candles... and then, whatever might follow after that?" He paused, waited for some reply from her. "It's been too long since I've had any of your delicious cooking."
"I'd love to, Gio, you know that, but... Ash and his friends. They're visiting. They're supposed to arrive tomorrow morning, and I'm making my strawberry-chocolate chip pancakes for brunch. It's just too risky, you know that. If they were to walk in on us, there'd be more at stake than just an awkward moment. We both know that." There was audible sadness in her voice.
"I know," Giovanni said. His heart sank. This was his chance, a chance for them to really be together, and all he got was this... if it was all he got, he wanted the moment to last longer, wanted to remember every detail of this moment, her smooth skin, the sweet, flowery scent of her perfume... drank it in, a mental Polaroid, because who knew how long it would be until they were this close again. "I love you so much," he said, seemingly out of nowhere. "Don't you love me?" He pulled her in closer, so her head was resting against his shoulder, ran a hand through her ponytail, her hair so silky and fragrant...
"Yes," she said. "We wouldn't be here otherwise... it's just... just..."
"I know, Delia, my dear. Forget everything else. The boy's coming tomorrow. I'm here now." Delia was relaxed now, and the moment was right... Giovanni took her hand in his, moved in to kiss her sweet lips, it'd been so long since he'd been able to-
"Oh, my phone's going off," Delia said, pulling away. "Good thing I set it on vibrate, right dear?"
"Um... right," Giovanni said. "Wouldn't want to kill the mood with a ringtone now, would we?" he muttered, as Delia went to the kitchen nearby to answer her cell.
"Oh, how are you guys doing?" she asked over the phone. "Uh huh. Oh, wonderful!... wait, what happened? Oh, that's too bad. Oh, but that's great news! See you tomorrow, sweetie..." She returned to the living room and laid the phone on the coffee table. "Sorry about that," she said, sitting back down.
"Might I ask what that was all about?" Giovanni asked. "I'm curious."
"Oh, Ash just called. They missed the first boat back to Kanto by two minutes. So it seems they won't be back here till late tomorrow afternoon. I just hope he'll be okay... what a shame. Now I can't make my pancakes..."
"I'm sure you'll have another chance, Delia," Giovanni reassured her. "After all, he comes by all the-"
They won't be back until late tomorrow afternoon. The two minutes Ash was late by had just bought them some time, hadn't they?
"You said they'd be late?"
"Well, Ash said five at the earliest for their arrival... I guess the ferry doesn't leave that often," she replied. "Don't worry, dear. He's a clever boy, I'm sure he'll manage until then..."
"That's perfect," Giovanni said, smiling at her mischievously.
"What is?" Delia asked, more than a little confused.
"You can still make those pancakes tomorrow, dear," he said. "You'll just be cooking for two. It's been too long since I've had any of your delicious cooking..."
