Something near and dear to my heart ❤️

I need to address something near and dear to my heart and that would be the new live-action retelling of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Let me tell you something about that movie, first of all…that movie is my childhood. I first seen that movie in theaters when I was just three years old. Ariel became one of my all-time favorite Disney Princesses. After that movie came out I was obsessed! I had almost everything Little Mermaid related. The reason the movie resonated with me so much is because I identified with the character of Ariel. She was a red-head (I have strawberry blonde hair) with a feisty attitude and a rebellious personality. The qualities that adored so much in her was her determination and her amazing voice! She was the total package when it came Disney characters. That’s why that movie, as cheesy as it sounds, is “part of my world” lol. I still hold a special place in my heart for that movie and Ariel of course ❤️ She is still an inspiration to me and a muse when it comes to my creativity. So, you could understand completely why when they’re are different versions of the character being portrayed I don’t usually get upset or angry. In this case, however, I’m a little disappointed and displeased with the result of the new live-action remake. Now, before you go off on me about the fact that Ariel is being played by a black actress, simmer down. Yes, it’s a factor, but it’s not the only reason why this makes me cringe. The plot line has been changed. Original lines in the movie have been altered. Songs, classic songs I might add have been revised. They even managed to add in characters who never existed in the original. Like, for example the one thing that gets me and confuses me is the blood line…Okay so Ariel is black. King Triton is Hispanic. Ariel’s sisters…all different ethnic backgrounds…how is this logical??? Then you have Prince Eric who has an African American mother, the Queen. Huh??? Where is his father?? And if he is white which I would assume…don’t you think that Eric would be mixed-race???

Going back to Ariel’s sisters. How in the absolute world, are seven girls who are all different ethnicities related???? Are they adopted??? Did King Triton spawn with other mermaids so they would exist??? I am so confused. I don’t understand it. And the kicker, they don’t share the same ethnicity as their father, well at least one of them does. Disney, how is this logical?? Or even ethical?? I’m going to have to do some research on their backgrounds. Because this is a mind f$&k. Sorry to dump on this movie but I really don’t think it’s worth it when the original has a consistent plot line and great music- not to mention one AMAZING sequel (say what you want about it) and an awesome prequel that gives us the back story of Ariel’s mother and how she died. What more could you ask for- Oh! And let’s not forget the prequel series- This remake will never be as iconic as the its predecessor. Sorry, not sorry.
