From Rob:
Dear Rachel, You and I have always had a beautiful relationship based on trust, understanding and communication. You know I agree with you on the Madonna issue, her rapping is sad and only serves to remind its listeners how white and old she is. Not that she's old, but a white girl in her 40s is gunna look old rapping. Now I couldn't tell if you were in support of "Rapture" or not, but I'm writing this letter in case you are. That is possibly the worst song by a cool band ever. NEVER allude to the fact it might have been good. It was blood-curdling horrid.
Love, your lover.
Rob
PS - I agree that Garbage seems to be doing the 'middle of the road' stuff to appeal to the fans they lost on BeautifulGarbage but "sex is not the enemy" is actually quite good.
Okay.
I'm not going to say that "Rapture" is actually a great Blondie song. I'm not going to say that the rapping part doesn't make me want to kick a puppy through a dirty window. However, the song itself it quite good up until Debbie morphs into some x-chromosome Vanilla Ice. Fortunately for Blondie, because Autoamerican was released in 1980, people generally consider "Raputure" to be part of Blondie's cross-genre style, say, like "Heart of Glass" and "The Tide is High", rather than just a big mistake.
But Rob, never, EVER critisize Ms. Harry again. It's just understood that she shouldn't rap. We don't speak of it.
Love you,
Rachel
