Here's a piece of grammatical nonsense which I've been irritated by several times lately. Since when did 'abolition' transmogrify into 'abolishment', and why? After all, we say 'demolition', not 'demolishment'. To be honest, I don't know the spelling-rule which dictates that it's 'abolition' rather than 'abolishment'; all I know is that I never heard of anything being threatened with or subject to 'abolishment' until a few months ago, and suddenly it's as if the word 'abolition' never existed.
Abolition of slavery. Abolition of fox-hunting. Abolition of prescription charges. Certainly not 'abolishment'!
