This Is Why I Don't Read WIPs

Aug 24, 2011 13:27

Reminder to self: YOU DO NOT READ WIPS, WITH GOOD REASON. This is because a) you get super-invested in a story you like and hate having to wait an unspecified length of time for the next instalment, and b) authors regularly fail to finish the story, leaving you high and dry, and you hate that even more. You need to remember to check carefully whether something is a WIP before you start reading.

Hell, I think there are actually only three, maybe four, people out there by whom I would willingly read WIPs, and that's because their writing is so goddamn fucking awesome that I would read their grocery lists if they posted them.

This random snarl has been brought to you courtesy of an author who labelled her fic as a multi-parter, number of parts specified, WIP not mentioned - I mistakenly thought it was a finished fic until I got to the end of part one and found there was no link to the next part. And, if that wasn't annoying enough, she then posted a note the next day to say that she'd decided she liked it as was, and wasn't going to write the other two parts originally advertised. AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!! You can't DO that to your readers, not if you want them to trust you enough to read you EVER AGAIN. SERIOUSLY. *evil eye*
