Writer's Cramp

Why is it that I always pick Blindfold prompts that give me ideas way beyond comment-fic length? Arrgghh. It's not even that I can't write short, filthy PWPs where the action has already begun pre-fic and it's all fucking, all the way, with little clues and phrases here and there to fill in the backstory as I go. I've managed it before (Tsunami springs to mind). But I seem to really go for AU prompts that beg for lead-in and build-up, and then I realize I've written 1k+ and the kissing hasn't even started yet, much less the porn. It's not like you NEED all this characterization, FFS - y'all know who X and Y are already! *headdesk*

There might only be one fill from me this round, poppets. Starting to suspect that this one might take me all fricken week on its own. It's eating my brain; I had to force myself to bed last night, and I nearly made myself late for work because I thought I'd add "just" a couple paras this morning, and got hooked in again. And it wasn't even my first choice of prompt, but I had firmer ideas for it so I started into it first on the assumption that I'd be doing several, as usual. *double headdesk*

...Oh my God, I'm making posts to wail about my WRITING and my PROCESS. I'm nowhere near enough of a writer to pull that off. I think I need an intervention, or at least a Gibbs-style headsmack.

ETA: Scratch that, I'm working on this thing so obsessively it'll likely be finished and posted tonight, I wrote all through lunch break and in sneaky chunks between appointments at work (yay for IE's In-Private browser!). I'm really pleased with how it's coming together, but it seems to be taking much longer than usual to write. I think the first 700 words took me two freaking hours.
