Oh, honey, no! The taxi from the city centre will be £15-£20. If you're going by train, the easy/cheap way to do it is to get your train ticket to Birmingham International instead of Birmingham New Street (or if you already bought it, you can get a single for £3 or so at New Street). Birmingham International station is on the same site as the hotel - it's a 5-10 minute walk, or if your luggage weighs a ton there's a courtesy bus that goes around the site. :)

Thing is, the NEC complex isn't really *in* Birmingham, it's about 10 miles out from the city centre - nearer to Solihull than the city centre, really. So, yeah, getting a through ticket to Birmingham International is the way to go. You'll probably have to change at New Street, but there are lifts and escalators - and International is on the Birmingham-London line so you won't have to wait more than 15 minutes for your connection.
