100 Historical Things, Number 44

Quick disclaimer to say aaaargh sorry I've been bad at replying to stuff again - have had critical work and stress build-up. But saw this today and had to post it!

You may already have heard about an excavation taking place in a car park in Leicester, where they hoped to find some evidence about Bosworth and post-Bosworth happenings. It was announced yesterday that the archaeologists believe they have discovered the skeleton of Richard III.

See the following:

Archaeologists believe they have found the skeleton of Richard III

And more soberly on the BBC:

'Strong evidence' the bones are lost king

As you can imagine, if this is Richard III, it is a hugely important discovery. It's nice when archaeological and historical research coincide. Here we have people looking for material remains that will be judged in terms (partly, though NB DNA analysis also being conducted!) of how it fits in with historical (i.e. written) evidence. I do hope they get further with proving that it's him.
