Review: Dog Soldiers

Mar 30, 2011 18:23

I've probably said this before, but I just want to tell you how good the film Dog Soldiers is.

The setting is the Scottish highlands, where something has been picking off campers and leaving bloody, ripped tents behind. A group of soldiers are doing a training exercise in the area...

Do you need me to tell you the rest? Surely the only questions are: what are the monsters, and does anyone survive? OK, so I'm not saying it's not predictable. If you've ever seen a slasher in your life you'll know what's coming. But the good news is that it's done well. Very few glimpses of the monsters, solid (and again predictable) characterisation, plenty of violence, blood but not so much it's sickening (well, most of the time), and a satisfying ending.

So you can see why I'm recommending it, right? Throw in Kevin McKidd and Sean Pertwee for eye candy solid acting turns, and the next hour and a half of your life is sorted. Watch it.

P.S. I'm writing a book review at the moment (on Bakker's Companion to the Greek Language). I think I should write it in this style.
