"Medieval economy (sort of) moment: I wondered whether there might have been any beer or wine or mead lying around in places." Not that I saw the ep but that's never stoped me having an opinion. *g*

Beer used to have a short shelf life, it had to be brewed freshly every few days, hence on a small scale, hence in villages women used to brew beer along with their other cooking sort of activities. Wine or mead are not recommended for thirst quenching, and wine was only for the rich who usually drank it mixed with water. So nothing helps really, except as you say, eating fruit. I like the idea of the plot, though, because disputes over watercourses *were* a big medieval thing. If you wanted to really annoy a lord or an abbot, destroying his mill weir or fish pond was a good way to do it.

Thank you for this! *g* It's great to have the official historical version.

It's interesting that wine was drunk with water in that period. I really don't know very much about historical wine drinking, except that in ancient Greece and Rome it was drunk with water. In the Odyssey, the Cyclops drinks unmixed wine, which is a sign of barbarity.

And it's nice to hear that the plot reflects historical reality in some small way!

Medievalism everywhere - have you seen this week's 'Primeval'? There were moments when I wanted to chew off my own arm at the laboured plot devices (won't spoil) and that new female character who used to be in 'Footballers' Wives', but actually the medieval history bits were quite good. And Becker - there should be more Becker, he is seriously hot, perhaps because he says so little? (the strong, dark, silent type).

Speaking of hot, don't dismiss Eurovision until you've seen the German entry.

Ah yes, I did see Primeval! I must say, I was hoping for more from it. But then you're right that they did the medieval history bits quite well - maybe because it wasn't too ambitious. I didn't notice, but did they say what date the knight was supposed to have come from?

I do like Becker too. I'm not sure he's developed much as a character yet, but he's so pretty to look at! Definitely the strong silent type though *g*

I'll look out for that German entry. (But I'd rather be tortured for a couple of hours than sit through the whole thing!)

To be honest, I didn't watch this by myself as I usually do but with friends, so I don't feel like I got to appreciate the episode as I usually do every week. I was rather confused with all the fighting, nothing ever seemed clear about Isabella and she seemed to be fighting everyone. It could be a self preservation tactic but at the end she appeared more to be a woman scorned and very much like Guy in many respects, the family traits showing through it seemed ( ... )

Oh I hate getting distracted while watching something! I like watching with my Mum, who's reverently quiet like I am :)

I do feel sorry for Little John becoming so cliched! I wish he had more to do.

And no, Kate is clearly not good enough for Much - he deserves better!

Oh yes, the Apprentice reference - I forgot to mention that. Thanks!

I was wondering where Robin got those strawberries...I don't think they would grow like that in a drought. Also, they looked like they were frozen and then defrosted. Well, the magic of TV.

So, annoyed, but unsurprised, that Kate is crushing on Robin. I wish they bring back the maid from the epi with Much in the bath (sorry, I'm rubbish with names and epi titles). It would be nice (but just a dream), if the writers decided to have Kate infatuated with Robin, but come to realize that Much is the better man. Sigh...anyway, also wish Much would get over his man-love for Robin. It's been getting a bit sappy. Devotion is ok, but even Much has to realize that friendship and romantic love aren't the same.

Still, I enjoy seeing handsome men on display for my viewing pleasure!

Yes, I'd like to see Kate realise how much better Much is - he's clearly the better catch! Robin can just be so annoying sometimes.

I wish they bring back the maid from the epi with Much in the bath (sorry, I'm rubbish with names and epi titles).

Ah yes - Eve. I think 'Much in the Bath' would be a much better title than the real one ('A Thing or Two about Loyalty') :)

And yes indeed, handsome men for my viewing pleasure... that's one of the biggest reasons for watching ;)

This brought about a sweet moment between Robin and Much (finally!), where Much sympathised with Robin but concluded, 'We've got each other.' But of course, this wasn't good enough for Robin, because 'It's not the same'. It never is, is it? Come on Robin, you should know how lucky you are having Much - treat him right! But I was thrilled to see how big a hug Much got from Robin at the end! It was all tight and squeezy and perfect. I really do wish Robin would appreciate Much more...

I know I was thrilled we got this moment and the hug. I was beginning to think that the writers had forgotten how close these two were supposed to be.

And finally, major complaint: there is no episode next week thanks to... the Eurovision Song Contest. WHAT??!! Eurovision is thought more important than Robin Hood? That's ridiculous! I'm very very angry. Grrrrrrrrrr...

Me too, very very angry!

Yes, they really need to show more between Robin and Much - they've hardly spoken this series!

And how on earth they can put Eurovision before Robin Hood I don't know :(

Cause they're idiots! Who on earth would rather watch THAT instead of RH?

I know! Nobody in their right mind could prefer that terrible music stuff! And to make it worse, it turns out that Eurovision doesn't even start until 8pm, so what is actually replacing Robin Hood is some documentary about the British Eurovision entry. I'm outraged!

P.S. Friended you back :)

No episode next week? Nooooo...

I still hold out hope for Robin/Isabella. I like the way the characters are developing and how ambiguous and well developed Isabella is as a character.

Kate is SO annoying. She literally does nothing except get captured. And now she crushes on Robin. I seriously hope they don't go down that road... does anyone actually like her?

But yes, could episode! And character development is always good!

I really need a Robin Hood icon...

I think I can confidently say that very few fans seem to like Kate. It's a shame the character isn't done very well, because I think she's a good actress when she's got a better drawn part to play. Hmf.

Oh dear, it's been so long since I went on a Robin Hood icon-making spree. If any of the icons I've made (see here) is any good to you, do feel free to take. But I imagine you'll be wanting something for the new series. I did make another one that makes covert reference to Guy as Orestes (the 'Brush the matted hair from my eyes, for I seem but dimly' bit in Eur.Or.) if you want that!
