In laterally related news, today's episode of Doctors was brilliant. Archie (practice nurse and environmental potential activist[1]) and his scouse mate Jerm (short for Jeremy) went on a beginners' climbing course, and were using the opportunity to chat up girls. Jerm's climbing partner turned out to be a bit of a frump, so when she asked him out he told her he was in love with Archie. He then persuaded Archie to pretend to be his gay lover...
Jerm: Will you pretend to be my gay lover?
Archie: No!
Jerm: Don't be homophobic!
Archie: You're not gay!
It all turned out well, of course, with Archie pulling his (very good-looking) girl (though in a moral twist she turned out to be using him for activist activities[2]), and Jerm falling for the girl he'd initially written off as boring. Their banter was the best bit. I so so so want them to keep Jerm (who has a fantastic and typically Liverpudlian combination of being unfortunate and quick-witted) as a regular character but I know they won't :(
