Fangirlishness (with a question for all of you)

You know how I'm a fangirl? Well, I devote a lot of 'headspace' (if you like) to being one. Really, a lot. Admittedly, I do have the sort of mind anyway that thrives on thinking about lots and lots and lots at once (with the ability to concentrate on one at a time, most of the time ( Read more... )

Given the amount of really bad fan fiction with retrofitting of invented characters into stories out there, I'm surprised you had to ask the question.

Of course, as far as I know (I usually avoid reading that stuff), you may be the only person to create good and convincing characters that aren't total Mary Sues or anything ;-). But maybe I just haven't read the right sort of fanfiction...

And then I squeeze them into existing storylines.

Oh, and FWIW, I always thought that the fourth HP book was rather like that anyway ;-).

Well, (plot spoilers for a book that's been out for 7 years alert!) see, there's this big interschool wizarding competition hosted by Hogwarts in which 3 schools (of which Hogwarts is one) take part. Each school selects (by magical means of the Goblet of Fire) a pupil who is 17 or older as their champion to represent them.

With me so far?

Well, see, the three champions are selected, and then contrary to all the rules and history and everything like that, after they have been selected, the Goblet picks a FOURTH champion, which is Harry, who then also has to compete as this fourth champion.

So, even the canon shoehorns in characters ;-).
