Well... we are now in El Reno, OK. OK!! And I'm writing this out because my power cord doesn't work right now, so I won't be online until I can get that fixed. But I want to be able to recall what happened today!
We left Tucumcari at about 8:00am after breakfast at Denny's. The inn's loaf of bread and toaster continental breakfast was not satisfactory. I'm usually not much of a breakfast eater, but I've enjoyed eating toast in a different state every morning.
The motel stay on Route 66 will definitely be a memory I'll never lose. Would you like a visual?
I think the morning mist actually makes it look better. Do not be fooled.
Back on I-40. We headed east toward Amarillo (I've been everywhere, man), but not before we had gassed up and stopped to check out another souvenir shop. I only got postcards and Diet Coke... nothing too exciting :)
After Amarillo we found a nice visitors center to get yet another map (I swear we've got 80 billion). I got a sticker that says "Don't Mess With Texas" on it. I'm going to put it on my longboard :)
They totally have accents here! At the Subway we found for lunch, the woman making our subs was so friendly and had a drawl. Then she told me they were hiring. At a random truck stop in the panhandle of Texas. I'll admit, her accent had me thinking twice about it.
Somewhere after Subway we found a really big cross. It was huge. I'm not exactly sure how tall it was, but just know it was big. Around the base of the cross were the twelve stations of Christ. Like, there were statues and plaques with verses on them. then there was a representation of Golgotha set up a bit behind the cross on a hill. It was sort of weird, I almost felt like it was blasphemous to have all these statues of Jesus, but then I saw quite a few truckers walking around taking pictures. It was good.
This is gorgeous country. Green land, red dirt, and blue sky. I could live in Texas or Oklahoma. It almost reminds me of home, but there are no comforting mountains in the distance.
We stayed on I-40 pretty much all day long. I didn't even know we'd crossed over into Oklahoma, there was no sign!
Only one more night of hotel camping after this! I'm stoked for Uncle Mark and Aunt Keen's spare room. Super 8 will always have a special place in my heart :)
