Happy New Year

Jan 01, 2007 23:31

Thanks to everyone who hasn’t cut me off, friends-wise. I’ve got a lot of lj catching up to do. 2006 was not the best year for me; 2007 is going to be better. Otherwise, I’ve nothing much to report after my hiatus. Except, the lj structure seems to have got more annoying this past year.

I’m afraid I haven’t sent out any Christmas or New Year or seasonal cards as I’ve developed a complete inability to get myself organised about anything other than essentials. That too will change.

More recently -- I wrote a fic for yuletide which was terrifying and fun in equal measure -- The Land of Lost Content which I feared everyone would misinterpret at lost content (as in data) rather than lost content (as in peace of mind). People have been polite enough not to mention that.

What else? Torchwood! Tonight! A double-whammy in the finale!

I had begun to wonder if it was too dark for me but it’s really hit its stride now, at the end. I’m quite wrung out. Last week’s timeslip episode was fab but tonight’s outdid even that. Jack/Jack! I head the squees of a thousand fangirls crying out. How appropriate that a woman wrote that episode. I almost wept for Rhys -- but the man needs to burn those Marigolds now.

Did anyone else think of Mr Stay-Puft when Billis said, ‘The Great Destroyer’ and looked up? It’s impossible to write anything in sci-fi or fantasy now without covering your back, reference-wise, and they almost dropped the ball with that one. I'm glad they didn't do a Buffy and wait till next season to bring Jack back. And the people at Torchwood are obviously the only ones in the country who don't watch Doctor Who. But really, it was virtually perfect.

ETA: thank you to jayest for the prompt and the chance to write the yuletide story; and many thanks to Frostfire for my gift, Brenin. I love her take on the characters I asked for and if you like The Dark is Rising series, it's highly recommended.
