...one of my favorite Richey lyrics ever, funnily enough.
I have yet to read any Italo Calvino, but I've been meaning to for a while, and now I know what to start with. It sounds wonderful, and I trust your judgment pretty implicitly. (Or is it explicitly? I always mix them up. I probably should not be admitting this.)
Oh, oh, oh, and Buffy! (While you're kind of on the subject...) I just saw "Becoming" for the first time a few days ago, and DAMN, it was GOOD. Just...wow. (And did I enjoy Spike kicking ass? Yes, yes I did, I will admit this freely.) Also, my current favorite Giles moment ever: "Dead Man's Party", in the car, imitating Joyce: "Oh, look at my mask, isn't it pretty, it raises the dead!" I had to stop the DVD just so I could fall off my bed and laugh for five minutes.
Finally - when I was a freshman, and a pretty shitty writer, I wrote one of my essays on Orwell's essays. I don't even remember what I said, and I don't want to, but I remember being very impressed with him. I should reread him again, this time I'm sure I will get much more out of him.

Marcovaldo was one of those books where I read the first couple of sentences, and knew *instantly*. I hope you love it when you read it, too.
Series 3 has so many episodes that are the best things I've ever seen on TV. I love Giles. One of my favourite Giles eps was A New Man, in which he's turned into a demon by Ethan Rayne and Spike is the only one who knows. Just fab.
Orwell's great. His humour is dry and his delivery is incisive, whether he's dealing with things that are important or trivial. And all his opinions are based on experience rather than just his own preferences.
