So. All the festivals here are ending, and with them, for various reasons, my social life for the forseeable future. But I have scored some great stuff!
Top of the list: Valentine Pelka's (Kronos in Highlander) autograph after I pounced on him in the theatre bar after a brilliant performance. I had to squee at him to get it. I won't say I embarrassed myself, but I couldn't think about what I said for about a day afterwards. I'm ok now, though, because his signed picture is now sitting in pride of place on my filing cabinet. And I'm glad I did it. Even though I was called a groupie.
Also: a signed copy of Alan Garner's latest book, Thursbitch after a talk he gave on the background to the story, which took 50-odd years to write. Alan Garner is right up there alongside Susan Cooper as one of my enduringly favourite authors from childhood. He looked about 70, which surprised me, though logically it shouldn't have. Maybe we tend to think of favourite authors, like teachers, forever stuck at the age they were when we encountered them. I suppose not surprisingly, he was mobbed in the signing tent at the end.
I was lucky enough to get to loads of other good performances, lectures and (gasp!) parties. I even had to pass on a film-festival party last night because my companion was 'too tired'. Pathetic.
I didn't get to see JKR, and that was fine, too, because I didn't want to talk to her about OotP -- I might have said something we'd both regret.
Now I need to catch my breath.
While I do, a meme, which I've been encouraged to post:
1. Comment to this entry with a post you think would be totally out of character for me--something I'd never talk about, never discuss, never say, anything. It has to be completely out of character.
2. Post this in your own journal.
Loads of other people have already posted this, so if you're all out of ideas, that's fine by me. Especially Jo.
