“What? Dinah, I… you can’t… I wouldn’t…” Ollie looked into her bright, blue eyes. He wasn’t sure he liked what he saw in them only because he wasn’t sure what exactly he saw, “Perhaps once…” he admitted, the words painful to say, “But not now,” he reached out and took her small hand in his, “Not since you gave me another chance. Us…we…that’s all that matters now!” He took a deep breath, “You know how I…you know that I would never…I mean…I love you and I promised you I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.”
Dinah looked at him thoughtfully as he stuttered through his speech. She wondered if his suspicions about her pregnancy had anything to do with it, “Ollie?”
He cleared his throat, composed himself, and looked up at her, his green eyes searching her face.
She was trying to fight the smile that threatened to overtake her face, “What do you think I asked?”
He narrowed his eyes and thought for a moment. He opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again without saying a word. He had invited those of the League who could get away to the fundraiser, including Diana, Vixen and Fire-who he had drunkenly made a pass at a few months ago after he thought Dinah had left the League for good to help the Bird’s of Prey-and greeted them all at the door. Handshake, kiss on the cheek, nothing else. Why would Dinah suspect something more?
Blue eyes twinkled in amusement realizing what he must have heard and clarified things for him, “Ollie, I was only joking and asked ‘You kissed Beatriz? Did you pucker?’”
