“I don’t want to think too far ahead… live for the moment, you know…”

That’s what she’d said.  He can picture her lovely face, her sultry voice, her wet clothes and hair, everything about her so vividly when she said those words to him after their kiss in the rain.  So cliché and yet so right.

But in the end, it didn’t work out and he tried not to think about her.  It hurt too much.  He’d only known her a few days, but when she was taken away she left a gaping hole inside him.

He felt useless unable to do anything about their situation.  He felt like a fake for wishing he didn’t have to be who he was, for wishing she didn’t have to be who she was.  He often dreamt of impossibilities… of the both of them together somehow… but he knew that if he truly wanted to be the Batman, there was no room for that kind of foolishness.  So, he tried not to think about her.

He didn’t think about her blue eyes.  Brilliant, hopeful, and full of life despite what she and her family did.

He didn’t think about her blond hair or that way he ran his fingers through the silky tresses while he kissed her.

He didn’t think about how similar they were- two of a kind- unfortunately, stuck on opposite sides.

He wanted to rip her out of his mind and focus on Dana, on his job, anything, even school.  But none of it was enough.  None of it was remotely what he needed.

And not surprisingly, Bruce saying, “Let me tell you about a woman named Selina Kyle,” did little to make Terry feel any better seeing as how his mentor lived alone and had for many, many years.

Title: Hard to Figure Out
Characters: Batgirl, Dick/Helena

Word Count:  345

AN: For v5_vendetta!  Prompt: spontaneity

Batgirl looked around.  It was quiet.  It’d been two nights in a row and not like Gotham at all.  She caught a glimpse of something blue.  She stood still and watched as Nightwing jumped out the window of a rundown apartment building.  That in itself didn’t surprise her.  Sometimes when following leads or scurrying thugs, one ended up in strange places.  What did surprise her was how tense he was.  His body was usually at ease while he was in costume, flying through the air, but now...

Batgirl made a move to go after him-it was a slow night anyway-but that’s when she saw Huntress with an amused grin making her look almost approachable jump out of the same window.    Unlike Nightwing, Huntress appeared very relaxed.  As soon as Huntress landed on the adjacent rooftop, Nightwing returned.

Batgirl couldn’t hear what they were saying, but she needed to.   She could see Nightwing was apologizing.  His head hung low and he couldn’t bring himself to look up at Huntress in the eye.  His body was screaming that it had been a mistake.  He hadn’t meant for things to go so far.  It just… happened.

Huntress laughed.  Batgirl could hear it from where she hid.  Nightwing’s words seemed to bounce off her, leaving her unaffected.  Batgirl was having trouble understanding the other woman’s body-she read a mixture of anger, relief, and sadness.  It confused Cass and she moved closer to attempt to hear their words.

“We got lost in the moment,” Huntress shrugged, “That’s all that happened.  No need to get your tights in a twist.”

“I…” Nightwing tried, but was at a loss.  Cass noticed his growing confusion and his desire to say more, but before he could, Huntress turned to leave.

Batgirl wasn’t sure how to feel about what she’d witnessed.  She watched Nightwing as he remained on the same spot for a long time, his body still full of regret, but Cass couldn’t tell if it was because of what he and Huntress had done earlier or for letting her walk away.
