Peace Day Challenge, T07; P07: Sacrifice
It was a different time, a different life. An era he doesn’t have much of an opportunity to contemplate, which is something he’s often secretly thankful for.
War and conflict have a way of bleeding into every generation and people died then, just as they do now. Lives were sacrificed and destroyed in the name of all that’s considered good and worth protecting.
As he watches one of his young masters working on the computer in the cave on an uncharacteristically peaceful night in Gotham, he wonders what if this Peace Day had existed all those years ago. If for this one day every nation would have considered a cease fire, how different would his life have been? His partner, his friend and lover, would still be alive. Alfred himself would have never sought escape from the pain that loss and those haunting memories caused by running away to a different continent. He looks down at his hands, unable to save that life he cherished above all…
When the attack came and his partner decided to move before anyone could stop the last minute decision carried out to save the remainder of the team and all Alfred could do was watch helplessly as it all unfolded before his eyes… The plans they had made vanished in seconds with that selfless action… but before he can delve deeper into what ifs and other impossibilities, another of his young masters asks for his assistance and Alfred stores these thoughts away with all the other rarely visited recollections and goes back to work.
