Mon dieu… do love de way she blushes...  Just belle.  She don’t blush for just anyone.  Not for Bobby.  Not even Logan. But if we in de same room…she almost make it too easy.  Haven’ had much of a chance to talk to de girl, but now dat she seems to have come to her senses and dumped de ice cube-where she goin’ now?  Might as well follow and find out.

She heads to de kitchen and stands in front of de open refrigerator.  Eyes closed, hand on the handle, just letting de cool air hit her glistening skin.  She’s been there so long, her body’s beginning to react to the cold…not dat dat’s a problem.

Carefully make my way over to her until she’s only inches away from me and she has yet to move or notice.  Should leave her alone, but she smells so sweet.

“Whatcha lookin’ for, chere?”

She jumps and spins around in place.  I’m smiling at her, but she’s angry.  I’ve noticed how she flinches whenever anyone comes too close.  Heard she got the cure.  She can touch now, but she’s still afraid to.

“Mind ya'll business.” She snaps and tries to push me aside, but I hold on to her arm to keep her from leaving so soon.

Can’t help the way my fingers trail slowly up and down her now cold arms…they so smooth and getting warm fast, “Jus’ tryin’ to help ya out, petite.”

“Don’t need ya help,” she says but her eyes have softened and she hasn’t tried to get away again.

Can’t help the grin on my face and it only gets bigger when her pouty lips start to turn up at the corners.  I lean a little forward and she doesn’t pull back.  Like I said, she make it too easy.

“Mebbe you’d like to get some dinner.  Jus’ you and Gambit, chere.  What do you say?”

Her smile gets wider and while I’m lost looking from those lips to those eyes, I don’t see the punch coming.

“No!  Keep your slimy paws off’a me, Gambit!” She’s furious, hands still in tight fists, glaring at me.  Den, her anger quickly fades away and she’s…embarrassed? She chews on her lip and looks deep in thought.  She blushes a little before finally looking down at me again, “Ah’m sorry, Remy.  Not used to…ya know… Didn’t mean to…”

“Sure you did, bebe, but Gambit can be persuaded t’ forgive you.”

I grin at her and she actually returns it.  Looks genuine, too. Seeing her look happy for once, I don’ mind one bit dat my ass is on de floor.

“What did y’all have in mind, sugah?” she asks, narrowing her eyes with mock suspicion.

“Gambit t'ink of somethin’.  Always does.”  I don't tell her I've had somethin’ planned since I first saw her though.

“That’s what Ah’m afraid of,” she says and then the best thin’ happens, Rogue laughs.

She extends her hand to help me up, but almost instantly, let’s go.  At first, figure she’s teasin’, but when fear overtakes her face, I know it’s somethin’ else.  Somethin’ bad.

“Chere, wait!” I call after her, but she don’t stop.  Follow up to her room and knock on the door, but she only yells for me to leave her alone.  Figure I can give de girl some space, but not for t’ long.

Rogue sits on her bed, hugging her legs close to her body.  She holds back the tears.  Damn if she’s going to let them stream down her face.  She’s tired of crying and can't help curse her godawful bad luck.

Telling everyone will be the worst part. They'll give her their pity looks again and she doesn’t want to tell them that the moment Remy took her hand she felt it immediately, that familiar, ugly feeling…the pull of her skin caused by her mutation.  The cure wasn’t a cure after all and her short lived ability to touch had come to an end.

But the worst part of all, her chance at a normal life was gone.  She wasted so much time feeling guilty about wanting Remy while being with Bobby that now…now whatever she hoped could happen, never will.
