She arrived home early from patrol.  She took a shower and stood before her closet with the towel wrapped tightly around her.  She wasn’t sure what she should wear and decided on something comfortable, a tank top and shorts.

She had butterflies in her stomach.  She’d never had butterflies in her stomach before.  She was actually nervous and she didn’t get nervous.

She was Cassandra Cain.

Batgirl.

One of the deadliest women to don a mask.

But suddenly, all that didn’t matter.  She paced back and forth across her living room, anxiously waiting for the doorbell to ring.

Long ago, Barbara had told her what inevitably happened between people who dated.  Cass had never given it much thought.  Until now.  She had been seeing Jason for about a month and despite his sometime volatile temper as Red Hood, he had always been patient and kind to her.  He never pushed or pressured her, but Cass knew he thought about it.  Selina told her men only had one thing on their minds regardless of how stoic, withdrawn, or angry they appeared to be.

Cass decided tonight would be the night.  Jason was her first kiss, her first boyfriend, and the first guy she’d seen naked, though, that happened accidentally while in pursuit of Harley Quinn.  Cass couldn’t stop thinking about him, well, parts of him since that night.  She even considered sending Harley a thank you card.

The doorbell rang and she froze in place.  The doorbell rang again.  She took a deep breath and walked over to open it.

She was ready.  She wanted this.  She reached out and grabbed the doorknob.

Cass shook her head.  She was being silly.  She excelled at everything and this would simply become another thing she was really good at.  The thought made her smile and she opened the door.

Jason stood in the doorway with flowers in one hand, a bag of takeout in the other, and an awkward smile on his lips, all because of the “advice” he received from Dick, Tim, and even Bruce.  Realizing he was just as nervous as she, Cass instantly felt better.  She kissed him softly and opened the door wider so he could come in.

Cass took the flowers and the takeout bag, placing both on the table.  The food smelled good, but he smelled better.  She grabbed his hand and led him to her bedroom.  When she turned to look at him, his usual cocky smile graced his handsome face once again and they didn’t make it to her room.
