Part 1 Batman arrived in the cave. He walked to the computer and began to log in the night's events.
Alfred descended the steps and approached him, “It appears you had a busy night. Would it be possible to have a look at your arm now, sir?”
Batman grunted, but walked into the vault to change. He headed to the med bay where Alfred was preparing the instruments needed to stitch him up.
As Alfred finished taping the gauze, Superman arrived.
“Hi, Alfred.”
“Good Evening, Mr. Kent. Is there anything I can get for you?”
“No, thank you, Alfred. I just came by to talk to Bruce.”
“Very well. Please inform me if you require further assistance, sir.”
Bruce nodded and Alfred disappeared up the stairs.
Clark stepped closer to Bruce, “What did you find out from Catwoman? She wasn’t the one who did that to you, was she?” he asked eyeing Bruce’s latest wound.
“What do you think?”
Clark sighed. Things were getting more complicated and that meant it was going to be a long night.
...
“So we have a deal?” Luthor asked as he handed Catwoman a large, black briefcase.
“We do.”
“You'll get the other half once I have the kryptonite.”
“Fine.” Catwoman replied, taking the briefcase and heading for the window. She was almost out, but paused when Lex spoke.
“Can I ask you something?”
She raised an eyebrow, “You can ask. Can't say I'll answer.”
Luthor smiled knowingly, “Would you be doing this if Batman had not...strayed?”
“I don't know what you're talking about.” She answered, her face was impassive and her voice steady, but Luthor seemed to see through her lie. He smiled. It wasn’t a sympathetic smile.
“Of course you don't.”
Catwoman tried not to return the smile as she walked towards him, “Can I ask you something, Lex?”
“You can ask. Can't say I'll answer.”
“How original,” Catwoman said sarcastically, “Would you be doing this if Superman had not-how did you eloquently phrase it- 'strayed'?”
Luthor chuckled, “What? He and I never-”
“Maybe not in that sense-besides, that’s between you and him and I wouldn’t pry-but when a certain pointy-eared hero came along, Superman had less time for you, didn't he? And doesn't a super-villain become just another ordinary criminal when there isn't a superhero to fight him?”
The smile on Luthor's face vanished and was quickly replaced by a sneer, “Get out.”
“With pleasure. See you in Metropolis, Lex.”
...
Batman watched as the slinky black figure easily dismantled the alarm and broke into Wayne Chemicals without any problem. Once the figure had disappeared into the building, he followed.
If what he assumed was true, Catwoman would be heading straight for the vault. He hoped that for once, he was wrong.
He wasn't. He found her opening the vault.
“Return what you've taken.” He sounded a bit forlorn and she turned around to look at him, a smile playing on her lips.
“I've always admired your ability to come up with unique greetings, Batman,” she teased as she placed the lead-lined box into the black satchel she carried, “And though I wish I could stay and catch up, I do have to be going.”
“Not with that, you're not,” he growled.
Catwoman mock-sighed, “Why do you always have to make everything so difficult?”
“Why do you?”
Catwoman's smile was predatory, “Makes it more exciting, doesn't it?”
“No.”
She ignored his reply and pressed up against him, wrapping one arm around his neck and the other around his waist. She slid her leg around his, pressing her other thigh against the most sensitive part of him. Looking into his shielded eyes, she wished things could be different and gave him a quick kiss before taking a step back.
He was actually surprised when she dangled a small device, one that could only have come from his utility belt, between them, “You know what will happen once I press this black little button?”
Batman nodded. He didn’t try to stop her as she pressed it.
“No one will be able to see us or hear us in here.”
Batman's posture didn't change, but the corner of his lips threatened to curl up into a smile. Catwoman almost purred at his reaction and reached forward to kiss him fully. It had been a long time since they had been together. So long, that neither could help but thoroughly enjoy the seclusion the dark vault offered. At that moment, only they mattered and any consequences would be dealt with later.
