ok, i have a question.  i have an fx5750, which is an overclocked 5700, which i got for free, to play around with because the fan had died.  so i strapped an AMD factory CPU fan to the heatsink (the CPU's heatsink was messed up) , and powered it on.  so far, no problem.  only thing is, because it is an msi, them temp control was built in to the fan ( Read more... )

I'd imagine as long as it doesn't melt into anything important its no problem. In fact, I'd actually be interested in knowing what happens - I'm pretty sure the gpu in my desktop is a FX5700.

ill have to check later, but i think i got it up to a 550 core and 500 ram before it catastrophically failed. what brand is your 5700? if it is an evga, i would be extra careful, because they seem to tend to not be cooled very well. btw, that is a 10ish percent OC, but i had a big fan, and fresh thermal paste on there (which could be good or bad, if the paste hadnt set yet...)
