A New Home

Today was a fairly good day at work. Wasn't bothered too much so I felt like I was able to get some work done. Today was Steve's administrative assistant's first day. Steve is the Project Management Team Lead for retail branches. I knew him a little from his Fleet days but never really dealt with him. Now I have to deal with him a lot but he's a fairly nice guy. He has a dry sense of humor though. He used to have an admin named Stephanie for the past 9 years, but she declined a position with Trammell Crow when the merger went into affect and her last day was June 1st. Steve apparently was lost without an admin as he had to open his mail for the first time in almost 10 years. I thought that was bad, but today he told us he didn't know how to order pizza! How can you not know how to order pizza? Just look it up in the white pages or on the internet. He said he called Stephanie last night to find out how to order pizza. lol. His new admin is some girl named Rachel who seems to be in her 20's. I was a little surprised when he brought her over to meet Bob and I, because I thought he was going to hire somone older. I don't understand why he didn't hire Christina. I think it was just totally wrong. Everyone gave her rave reviews to Steve but he was under the impression she would leave after a year because her education is within sociology. She assured him she wasn't going to go anywhere and she's been an admin before and actually enjoys it. But Steve is stubborn in many ways and decided against Chris. It would have been great to be working with her again, especially in the same department. Oh well, everything happens for a reason and maybe this was for the best.

Anyways, Steve thought it would be a nice idea to get everyone together and welcome Rachel with a pizza lunch. Plus we would get the chance to see our new space once we move next month to 1 Constitution Plaza. Brian is coordinating our move and he showed me my space and I'll be quite happy with it. I finally will have a window seat and it's an enclosed cubicle. My cubicle now is somewhat open, but my new space seems to be fairly private. Plus, I won't have to listen to WCCC on my big radio with an antenna as my orignal small radio should come in just fine since I'll actually be above ground. No more basement! After a little over 3 years, I'll finally be out of the basement. Granted I'll have another new phone number. It'll be about my 4th or 5th different number since I've been working in an office. The only downside is Bob won't be sitting next to me. He's going to be within the same general area, but a few cubicles down. I also was under the impression that we wouldn't be moving until sometime in September as these things take time. But apparently there's talk of us moving as early as August 12th! I'll believe it when I see it. We're going to be on the third floor and I'll be facing directly opposite the State House Square garage on Market St. Of course all this is only a short term home. We're supposed to be there from anywheres between 6 months to a year and then we'll be permanently moved to 99 Founders Plaza in East Hartford, which will be great since they have their own on-site parking. But for now 1 CP will be nice. I wonder how many hotties walk down Market Street during the day. haha, not that I have any time to look. :)
