Lyrics:

Broad, is this sea
The salt enters the wound
My take, on you is simple

So heal, (heal)
You’re fear
To heal (heal)
You're fear

Time, spent waking off shore
The calm, before the storm
My take, from you is simple

So heal (heal)
You're fear
To heal (heal)
You're fear

You’re such a comfortable liar (5x)

So calm

Cause I said wrong
You comfortable liar (3x)

Comfortable liar
Liar

Comments - It's rather ironic I'm posting this song when I had a recent conversation with someone about "fear" and "risk". However, I didn't plan it like this as I try to go in alphabetical order with my song postings and this just happened to be the next song, only because I originally by-passed it. My take of the lyrics is in regards to people who have certain fears but won't conquer them or let them be known. They're in a way being liars to themselves and when they've been doing it for so many years they're "comfortable liars". It's nothing wrong, it's just some people have fears that they're too afraid to overcome or just won't admit they have. Musically, "Comfortable Liar" has some awesome guitar riffs and is my absolute favorite song on "Wonder What's Next". Even though the guitars and the drums portray a heavy sound, the song itself is rather soothing. Singer Peter Loeffler's voice can range from anger to loud to soothing and he perfoms his best soothing voice in "Comfortable Liar". It's almost like a sound you would listen to when you're all alone and you want to escape. I could do without the screaming at the very end, but that's for only the last two lyrics, doesn't last for more than five seconds and doesn't take anything away from the song in general. "Comfortable Liar" was not one of the three singles off of "Wonder What's Next" to be played on the airwaves. That distinction when to "The Red", "Closure" and "Send the Pain Below". In my opinion, "Comfortable Liar" ranks right up there with them (if not better) and I don't understand why it wasn't chosen as another single. Obviously, I think it's vastly under-rated and most likely it won't be played on the radio as Chevelle's next cd is set for a September/October release and their first single off of that will be played fairly soon.
