Take a Breather

What is it with people that always seem to need to be in a relationship? So far I’ve observed this situation only with girls, but I’m sure there are men that do the same thing. However, I haven’t observed any guys this pertains to. I was talking to a long time friend yesterday and found out that she broke up with a guy she was seeing for the past ( Read more... )

Aha, here's the entry I wanted to reply to before you added me. I just had to log out. August of '05 eh? Didn't notice that before. No wonder I couldn't find it when I was logged in.

Speaking from personal experience (as a guy), there are guys like that and I think I am (or at least was) one of them. I had a severe case of "the grass is always greener on the other side," though - when single, I wanted to be in a relationship, and when in a relationship, I wanted to be single.

That's not true now, of course.

The world (or at least American society) is biased toward couples, and that's not hard to see if you open your eyes a little. When single, though I tried to revel in my singlehood, I still felt a lot of societal pressure to get into a relationship, particularly when I was in my mid-20s and it seemed like everyone in my group of friends (both online and off) was getting married.

I felt like everyone was rubbing their happy coupledom in my face 24/7, though that was probably far from the case. I think this caused me, when one particularly bad relationship ended, to jump into bed with the first girl who would let me, and boy was THAT ever a mistake. I also often took it upon myself to rub my singlehood in couples' faces and generally try to put relationships down while secretly being jealous.

Typing that all out, I hate how I used to be in that regard.

But there are guys who feel the need to always be in a relationship. Just probably not for the right reasons.

oh wow, this is an oldie but goodie. Feel free to comment on any other archived post! lol Brings back memories.

Even though I am in a relationship and quite happy, sometimes it still makes me a little sick to see certain people act the way they do but not nearly as bad as I used to be.

I have a friend that felt the exact same way you did about relationships. But now that he's been in a solid one for the past year and a half and has matured, his views have changed. Even though sometimes I miss his "bitterness" lol
