Relief

The weather changed drastically from the hot-hot-hot to a few days of clouds and some showers.  It was such a sudden change, it felt like fall.  The sun was back yesterday and today.  It's around eighty and not hot-hot-hot.  I'm not ready for fall so I'm glad the sun is back.

I sent off my second story for the workshop during my lunch break on Friday.  A far future story at 1600 words.  I don't feel that good about it but it's done!

Next up: continual reading of stories from the issues of Asimov's.    I expect to be critiquing a bunch of stories for the workshop in a week or two.  Next week I'll work on the short story I had completed before getting the workshop assignments. It's a fantasy (contemporary), not science fiction, so I'll send that off to Realms of Fantasy.

Since the short story workshop starts on September 11, I think I'll keep focusing on short stories.  I'll write another one before now and then.  If I have time, I'll write a second one.  I'm enjoying this focus, thinking about conflict and character motivations and striving to finish a story.  I think I might be getting a handle on conflict.

After the workshop, however, the novel work must begin again.  Because that's one story that also needs to be finished.
