And so the Keele-ites did flock once more unto their tents in the land of Staff-ord-shire (that is to say That Land Where Dwelleth the Sto-kie-ites). Many were they, living as tribes of fresh-ers, second-years and fin-al-ists from Barnes unto Haw-thorns. They did come forth from many lands; from as near as Birm-ing-ham unto the far-flung reaches of the Greek-ites. There were those also living in the land of New-castle-under-that-Lyme, Stoke-on-Trent, Fen-ton and all the other -tons, although they were not strangers in the land of Brit-ain.
Yes, folks, we're back. I'm once again in Hawthorns as previously mentioned and actually quite liking it apart from the fact that I only have two square-pin sockets and am having to run two extension cables. Oh well, musn't grumble, it is Freshers' Week after all. I've found that all the reading-lists for my subjects are online somewhere, so they shall be studied in detail. Not looking forward to the 9 a.m. lecture for Politics on Monday morning, but one can't have everything.
Saturday was spent in packing and tearing towards Keele that afternoon. As is normal I found that I hadn't packed a couple of essential things like my connecting cable for my speakers, so I have to make do with my headphones on my mp3 player. And my standing-lamp is still standing at home in my room. I think I may have to go and fetch it at some point. I also went to the freshers' disco that night with some of the newbies from my block. They're a nice bunch and we had a good night those that stayed in the Union. I met up with a load of people from The Oaks in the queue outside -- it was good to see everyone again and I have made arrangements to see the wife this week.
Sunday I was with my fellow Tories on the stall at Freshers' Fair persuading people to sign up. Some took the bribe of cake and corkscrew and are attending our event for them on Thursday. I stayed around for a few hours before going round and signing up to the French Society and the Jewish Society. Sunday night was spent drinking again and a few of us from A Block went over to C Block, where I perceive some of the girls will be spending a little more time.
Yesterday I provided my services on the LGBT stall. We had a good turnout for sign-ups and many came along to the social that night. Which nearly didn't happen because of so many hiccups from so many quarters. However we persevered and went to The Club afterwards where a few interesting things happened. I also signed up to KUBE and will be putting in my bid for a radio show either later today or tomorrow.
So today sees the beginning of the real academic headache -- demands are being made on my time from the French department to go and hear a general preliminary lecture as well as a small fact-finding session for France Post-1945, my first second-year module. Hopefully it should prove interesting and a good basis for my EU module in Politics next year.
That is basically all for now, audience, I shall be updating regularly now I'm back and in the thick of things again.
