And so it was that those Keele-ites who went away back to their homelands returned unto their tents (that is to say, those resident in the tents at The Oaks and Holly Cross) for to begin the Great Period of Stress and Harassment, which did last many days. Yea there was much did go on in the meantime, which did divert the Keele-ites many ways.
Sorry, folks, it's been an awfully long time, but getting round to posting on here never seemed to happen. I've over a month's worth of events to report, so I'll try to put in as much as I can, starting from where I left off.
My job-hunting came to no fruition at all and after an unsuccessful application for MBNA, I decided to put anything of that nature off until a later date. Not long after that I came back to Keele and settled back into the old routine quite quickly.
My first exam was sprung on me on 2nd May, it being a French oral. I presented on technology and the Internet and thought it went quite well. That night I went as usual to the Union before going back and blanketing my block with Conservative leaflets for the elections the next day. Thursday 3rd May was a very interesting day. I handed in my Politics essay and then set about to help in trying to gain a Tory victory (more about that later). I turned up on the Concourse and was given a t-shirt and a stack of cards after I cast my vote. We seemed to be attracting a fair few people and I engaged in the vying for votes with the UKIP candidate. However, our campaign seemed to suffer a serious blow when our dearly beloved Labour candidate was given the use of a car with a PA system on it. Not to be outdone, I comandeered a car and driver, taking one of our large signs with us, and so we drove off around campus, with me shouting "Vote Tory" at the top of my lungs. The day slowly wore on and we stopped around early evening, walking down to The Sneyd Arms for dinner. Owen and Ginny went back to Owen's and a few of us followed on later. On the way, a dreadful little oik decided to call us "dirty fucking students", which we thought was a bit much, but we passed on and spent some time watching Question Time, which saw a typically excellent performance by former Labour MP Tony Benn, especially in the face of the ever-condescending John Bolton, former US Ambassador to the UN. If he had had a researcher look into Mr Benn's history, he would have found himself coming up against a vibrant and very energetic gentleman of great standing in the UK. Bolton may just have chosen his words a little more carefully. The next day I attended the count and found the Lib Dems retained Keele ward and that I was not to be elected as a Parish Councillor either. So much for a career in politics.
Little went on that weekend, so on to the week beginning the 7th May. That day I had my Russian oral, which I also thought went well. This was a quieter week , as the exam period was truly upon Keele and very few people were moving from their rooms. Rehearsals for Cymbeline were still going on and people in The Oaks were beginning to notice food going missing. We also found ourselves in the middle of an ant infestation which ended up coming from the kitchen and into two of the bedrooms. That Friday saw CF's AGM and our internal elections. I was going up for Constitutional Chair with Matt, Joe was in for Executive Chair, Alex for Deputy Chair Political. The most hotly-contested one was Deputy Chair Membership, for some reason, which a girl called Clarissa won. She seems a pleasant sort of girl, despite meeting her only recently. I lost my bid for Constitutional Chair, but am still Secretary. That week I also gave up on my watch as my iPod gave up on me. The watch had been bought in Tunisia for the equivalent of £12 and the buckle was wont to continually come off, so I went forth and bought a nice new one with a metal bracelet. I am still mystified as to what caused the great iPod disaster, but that is being dealt with. That Saturday was the night of the Eurovision Song Contest, which had some of the most hilarious performances I have seen in all the time I've been watching it. Disappointingly the winner this year was some Serbian lesbian, so we're looking at the competition next year coming from Belgrade.
So Monday 14th May dawned and brought with it another day of near-nothing. The 15th saw my Russian written exam in the afternoon and on the 16th I completed my Contemporary Political Issues exam. Friday 18th saw my French language exam (for which I was late!!) and my return home for the weekend. It was my cousin's birthday that Sunday, but we went over on the Saturday. It was nice to see so may members of my family all together and I told them all my news. Sadly on the Sunday I was needed for Cymbeline and came back to Keele that afternoon.
So now we come to this week. I have been in and out of rehearsals as well as having two exams on Thursday and Friday. I was out Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights and am now exhausted. Friday was intense, as I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 in the afternoon (during which there was a 15-minute interval and major sound problems), then to CF, then to the Union and afterwards to an all-night rave which saw most of us leaving at around 6:45 yesterday morning. I am now dying from all this. Mingle in Cymbeline rehearsals every so often and you're looking at a disaster.
Until such time as I have sufficient strength to write again, audience.
