Ohhh ummm... She had a court date in October? Which seems weird to me... Are they usually that far in the future? She found out the woman she hit was injured so she's not sure what's going on with that... She was told not to contact anyone (insurance companies and stuff) until she has a lawyer, which she's trying to get. She's also gonna try to use the fact that the cops didn't read her her miranda rights when they arrested her and the fact that they took longer then two hours to give her a blood test to see if she can get her sentence lowered... But I don't know how any of that works and I'm pretty sure it's her word against theirs, so I'm not sure how well that's going to work out. This definitely was her wake up call though, she says she's DONE drinking, so I hope she can keep that up. She's been going through a ton of shit the past two days... Dealing with the bail bondsmen and trying to get a lawyer on top of the fact that my stepdad won't let her behind the wheel of the car anymore at all. But I'm rambling now and tired so I'm ( ... )

No, you're making perfect sense. And yes, that's pretty typical to get a court date that far in advanced, especially in some of the larger counties. Here in Cook in can run upwards of 4 months sometimes. I just assumed you lived in a little town so they planned on getting her arraigned quickly ;)

At least this gives you some time to find a lawyer you really like. And your mother was told correctly - she probably shouldn't talk to the insurance company until she has legal counsel. This must be horribly stressful on your family, but I'm glad that your mom may have seen the light. I'll keep my finger crossed for her.
