I dropped off the LJ world and went to the Bayou

Wow, so I haven't updated in a long time.

I went to New Orleans for MLK weekend. It was for the Ben & Jerry's global conference. I took a lot of photos. I was in the lower ninth ward for a day helping build houses for Habitat for Humanity. I took a lot of pictures.

I may go back to New Orleans for spring break to help out some more with the relief through the Common ground Relief organization.

New Orleans has barely been repaired outside of the tourist spots. I talked to a lot of folks and many believe that the levies were purposely demolished to flood the ninth war to alleviate pressure on levies protecting the tourist areas. Which means the businesses of rich white people are worth more than the lives of poor black folk. I talked to people that heard an explosion before the 9th ward was flooded. Also, the insurance companies refused to pay for any of the damage to anyone that I talked to. It really makes me want to sing Lee Greenwood's famous lines, "I'm proud to be an American" nice and loud.

Watch Spike Lee's When the Levees Broke in order to understand all of this horrible things we have allowed our government to do to our fellow Americans.
