The Goodely Wyfe would like a charm bracelet.

Thus, I will be getting a charm bracelet for her. I have purchased VERY little jewlery in my lifetime, and know very little about the field. What would you recommend? Vintage from eBay? New from Tiffany's? Any advice or guidance would be appreciated!

Well, a box from Tiffany's will make any girl feel insanely special. If she's a sterling silver kind of girl (rather than gold), then they have a really reasonably priced charm bracelet that doesn't have ugly links (in my opinion) here. And by the way ... I'm so happy for you two that Millie is here ... and happy for her that she has such loving wonderful parents! :-D

Wow! very nifty, but it is definitely too "hammered" and unrefined for me. I am going to go for the Tiffany's today.

I guess a good way to start would be to find out what kind of jewelry metal she loves, and what sort of elements she's interested in.

I'd ask her:
Silver, gold, platinum, copper, brass?
Pearls, crystals, beads?
What kind of charms? (travel, baby, hobbies, a mix?)

It might also be a good idea to browse through the jewelry that she already has to get an idea of what she likes.

Also, what about the jewelry that she already wears every day, or often? What kinds of design elements are in those pieces?

Other places to find design inspiration: any of her favorite photos, favorite photo subjects, a favorite t-shirt, a favorite poster, favorite animal.

Wow! That sounds like a lot of work. I was remiss to not add that my gift giving pattern never really involves what I think a person would want or like. I prefer to give gifts of things I want the person to have, or think it is silly that they do NOT have. It is almost a certainty that if you ask me for something for a present, its a lock I wont get it for you, hence my bracelet troubles.

I like the idea of Tiffany's, especially because the Goodely would be the first person to tell you she doesn't "need" something from Tiff's in the first place. :)
