The Sluts
Yesterday a book arrived in the mail for me that I'd ordered called 'The Sluts' by Dennis Cooper. It is fiction. I never read fiction books. I'm a 'true story' or at least 'loosely based on a true story' kind of gal but a pornstar recommended I read this book and well, I couldn't refuse. I'm 10 pages away from finishing and have read it all this afternoon/tonight.
The book is fucked up. In the best way possible. It's written in the style of a gay male escort forum, the conversations between the users posting, one way letters, faxes.. the style itself is nuts but surprisingly easy to follow.
The story is fucking crazy. I do not get shocked easily but there were things in this book that I don't think a lot of people could read. Snuff. Paedophilia. Detailed sexual torture. Boyband sex murder fantasies. Testicles being cut off and then eaten. Genitals set on fire. Legs and ankles broken for sexual pleasure. Rape.
This book has it all.
The book is challenging, intense and hard to read at times, but I love it. It's inspired me to check out more of Dennis' work and also do some writing of my own.
