Manly People Doing Manly Things. The author/artist of 'Manly Guys Doing Manly Things'" talks about Manliness, claims that men are 'in crisis', and what it means 'to be manly'. While I don't fully agree with everything she says (or maybe just how she says it - getting across subjects like these without treading on someones toes is hard), I do agree with the suggestion that (for better or worse) 'manliness' is often used as shorthard for self-sufficiency, and her distiction between manliness and being macho.
While we're on the subject of masculine things being inappropiately used for the positive: 5 Ways to Grow Some Balls. The first commenter (rightly!) makes all the points you'd expect about the inherent chauvinism in phases involving 'having the balls to...', but beyond that it's a decent artice. Figuring out what you want, why, and having the guts to go for it is important! Besides, I've always found phases involving 'ballsiness' to be unintentionally funny, given how bloody delicate physical balls are.
Why You Won't Quit Your Job. Yeah, guess what's on been my mind? This hit a little close to home, so I'm actually making the effort to figure out what to do about it. Also: The Skinner Experiment. Explaing everything from videogame achievements to why you don't leave your job!
