Lumpy young women who scowl as they stomp down the sidewalk shoving strollers ahead of them--smoking cigarettes as hard as they can above their babies' heads--are not beautiful glowing visions of motherhood.
We've been having nice customers at the store today, and I mostly saw nice people at the restaurant too... but all week I've been seeing these unhappy families. They're everywhere! Another example would be the table of four (parents/two teen boys) who sat waiting for their food to come up without looking at or speaking to one another. Every other table in the restaurant was chatting or working or chewing quietly. These were silent, freaky people. Weird.
