hello, friends.
i got the job at PETA - and started this past monday.
so far, it's amazing. all my coworkers are really great, and i have so much in common with them, so it's been easy making friends and feeling comfortable. i have one pair of pants i'm able to wear to work, simply because i've been so poor for so long that i've not kept up with my wardrobe the way i should. that should change with my first check, i think.
this past tuesday, liam from the dillinger escape plan was in the office for a photoshoot. i got to sit in, and ultimately style him, and direct his poses and stuff. he's a rad guy - he had a mullet, handlebar moustache and some hot hot pink vans.
the photoshoot was really cool - our company photographer is really talented. if you want, you can check out some of his work in our RESCUED calendar, which is available on the
PETA website. we just did a few shots of him standing in his clothes, and then put him in some PETA2 merchandise. then we interviewed him, and shot some video.
my desk is pretty boring right now - i brought a photo of alexander the great(my puppy), a black and white photography of my niece in florida i took a couple years ago, the album art from HahaSound, the DVD jacket from Punch Drunk Love, cut up and posted randomly here and there, and i'm getting a pumpkin soon. i'm just not sure what to do with it - i've never had my own space at work, really. not even at bead retreat.
i coordinate print jobs, proof print jobs, get information on printing costs, assist in design, do random jobs for marketing and such. it's great - my dream job, really!
the PETA office is great - it's right on the water, and you're allowed to bring your companion animal to work with you. so i've got three dogs that roam around my department: nittany, a HUGE great dane; nola, a tinny flulffball of some sort; and missie, another little fluffball. all the cats hang out on the fourth floor and are known by "gangs"; the R&I cats, and the Policy cats.
the k got an apartment in the hague, right across the street from my office. he's moving into it in two weeks, probably on the 25th or so. i'm going to share some of the rent, and divide my time between there and newport news, until alexander passes away - it'd break his heart if i left now, and i'm sure it would kill him. it'd break my heart, too. so i'll stay at the apartment now and then, just to give me a break on the commute. and hopefully, when A is gone, i can move in full time. we're going to adopt a kitten for sophie joe to play with while we're both at work... and plus, i just really want a cat of my own. so far, i've found two that i really like, but i think they may have been adopted already. petfinder is really bad about updating their databases. the apartment is beautiful, or so k tells me. i've not seen it, yet. i was around the corner looking at another apartment, for another appointment we had made for the same time(oops!). the diagram he drew is splendid!
that is all for now.
