It has only been ten days, but so far, being 30 isn't so bad. Despite it being a "landmark" birthday, I didn't have a landmark celebration. Or any celebration at all, really. Nat and I went shopping in the afternoon and then ordered in Chinese food when we got home. I would have liked to have stayed out longer and gone out for dinner, but it started pouring and we didn't have an umbrella, so we just hopped in a cab and came home. It was necessarily a bad day, just not very special at all.
Nat and I are going to Toronto this weekend for our friend Mike's wedding. I'm excited! We're leaving Thursday morning on the train and coming back Sunday evening the same way. Flying would be much quicker, obviously, and there are cheap flights available, but neither Nat nor I like flying very much and the train is a lot more leisurely. I never regret taking the train, but I do start to get antsy around hour three or four.
I spent three hours today cleaning. One of our landlords is cat-sitting for us, and I always like to make a good impression, so I'm making sure to get to all those chores that don't get done on a regular basis. I figure, the better tenants we are, the more they'll go out of their way to keep us around. This is the second year in a row that they haven't raised our rent. Last year it was optional, but this year they had to, so instead they gave us a rebate for the exact amount of the increase so that our rent doesn't go up at all. I guess we must be doing something right!
