I leave for Thunder Bay in one week and I'll be getting there the next day. I'm getting excited about it for obvious reasons (Christmas, family, friends, etc.), but also because I haven't been on a road trip in years. Me being who I am, of course I'm also having a little anxiety about it, too. We've never travelled with the cats by car before, so we have no idea how they'll react and it is winter, so driving conditions could be iffy. One of my greatest fears has always been getting into a car accident, so I really can't help but worry about that. I guess I just have to be prepared and hope that everything goes smoothly. We're bringing kitty litter in case we get stuck in the snow and, since we don't have one of our own, we bought a disposable cell phone to use in case of emergency. I'd like to get some flares, but I have no idea where to get them, and anyway, because we're using a rental vehicle, we have roadside assistance. This is really just a test run; if we don't like it, we never have to do it again. And it's not like we're driving back. Thunder Bay, it turns out, doesn't get many people wanting to rent cars for long distances, so they charge you an arm and a leg when do want to. Nat couldn't work out any kind of deal with the rental company- they were completely unwilling to lower their $1.05 per/km price- and since it's a minimum 15 hour drive, it would have cost an outrageous amount of money, so we're flying home. It's not what I wanted or planned, but it could turn out to be for the best

I was supposed to go Christmas shopping today, but I woke up to a white out. Well, practically a white out, any way. For the first half hour or so that I was awake, I considered going shopping anyways, but decided it was probably a better idea to wait until tomorrow, considering you have to go outside to get to most of the shops and it's one of those days where you get covered in snow standing outside for just five minutes. I've already shovelled twice today and if it wasn't so late I would probably go out and do it again. And it's still snowing! I really, really hope that it's not like this tomorrow because I'm running out of days here. At least I'm almost done my shopping, though. Miraculously. I only have two people left to buy for: my grandma, who I'm giving a mall gift certificate because any time you try and make an effort by buying her something nice, she just ends up giving it away. I don't know if she's incredibly generous or just incredibly picky. The other person is my dad's girlfriend and I'm totally at a loss for what to get her because we haven't spent all that much time together and I don't know her very well (and she doesn't know me that well either apparently- last year she gave me a book by Mitch Albom. Ew). Asking my dad is no help either. I don't want to get her a gift card because it might seem impersonal and like I didn't try. *sigh* I guess I'll have to just keep looking and hope something catches my eye.

Nat is at his work Christmas party. It's an employees only dinner, so I ordered bad Chinese food, watched The Biggest Loser finale that I recorded last night, painted my nails and talked to my mom on the phone. Kind of a girly night. :)
