the one where I talk (mostly) about tv

I heard a terrible cover of Belle & Sebastian's Funny LIttle Frog last week. I was surprised that there even are any B&S covers. I sang along even though it was lousy, because it's still a good song, but it was the last thing I expected to hear in a French bookstore.

Courtney Cox's new show, Cougar Town, is hilarious. I watched the first episode not expecting much, but I'm hooked. I look forward to it every week and it's one of the few shows I'm actually caught up with. Our pvr is practically full already and the tv season just started. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I'm thrilled that tv is so good right now. It kind of makes up for the fact that movies are getting lousier and lousier, with more remakes, sequels and (crappy) tv show adaptations. I can't even remember the last time I watched a really great movie. With tv, on the other hand, there's so many great things on that I can't keep up.

Since I'm on the subject of tv, has anyone watched The Cleveland Show? What do you think? I've seen the first two episodes and I'm on the fence. It's like a mixture of Family Guy and American Dad, only less funny. And I've been pretty unimpressed with Family Guy lately anyway. I find they've gotten lazy because every episode seems to have the exact same formula: Peter says or does something terrible, they make fun of someone, maybe sing an unfunny song and then finish with a joke that goes on way too long. Yawn.

And, oh yeah, the 30 Rock premier was awesome!

Nat's mom left yesterday afternoon. It was a really pleasant trip; not too short, not too long. I'm glad we were able to show her a good time and that she was able to recharge her batteries. She's such a kind, selfless person. She deserves more of a break than she gets.

family, music, tv
