[RL with Section 9] [Backdated to the AU virus]

Gesicht had been surprised by his superior's agreement to this exchange. They had not, in the past, given any sign that they would be willing to let Gesicht be of use to another government, and certainly not for such a length of time. But he was grateful for the opportunity. Dr. Hoffman had been thrilled, saying it was an excellent opportunity for ( Read more... )

Super-advanced robotic senses notwithstanding, it was much easier for Togusa to pick out one of the handful of Westerners in the arrivals terminal than for Gesicht to sort through the crowd for one more Japanese. (Besides, the suit was a giveaway.)

"Gesicht!" Togusa raised a hand, and his voice to be heard over the bustle of the airport. The name was not an easy word to get a tongue accustomed to Japanese around, even with language software running in his cyberbrain.

Super-advanced robotic senses, did, however, ensure that Gesicht could hear Togusa over all the other sounds of the airport. He waved in return, and made straight for the other officer.

"Hello," he said with a small smile.

"Hello," Togusa returned the greeting. The bow was reflexive, but he caught himself and offered a hand to shake.

"How was your flight?" He looked at Gesicht, wishing he had Batou's Ranger eyes. German robotics had gotten unbelievably advanced, apparently. No wonder Public Security had agreed to the exchange. Togusa had no doubt the redsuits were going to scan Gesicht with every wavelength they had available.

"It was fine," Gesicht said, giving Togusa's hand a polite shake. He'd spent most of it reading.

"Did you check anything?" Japanese and robotic courtesy were going to conflict in the baggage claim when the question of who was going to carry the suitcase came up.

"One suitcase." He just needed a few spare suits and one or two odds and ends, after all.

"Okay." Togusa pulled the location of the proper baggage claim from the network and started through the crowd. Fukuoka Airport had come a long way from the single strip it had been when the capital had been relocated.

"It's been a slow week, so there's no real rush, but you don't keep the Major waiting." There's no "or else" implied. One simply didn't keep the Major waiting, full stop. It was a natural law, like gravity, or the speed of light.

Not that Gesicht kept anyone waiting, except in truly extreme circumstances.

"What is the situation?" A slow week didn't mean you should try to be any less informed or involved.

I think this is where they are in canon. :|9 honestcop March 23 2010, 04:08:16 UTC
Togusa switched to cybercomm. Nothing too detailed until we get you the latest encryption, but it looks like we're winding down security duty on the PM to concentrate on the Individual Eleven directly.

To Batou's great and loudly-expressed relief. Togusa missed his partner already, not that he was admitting it to anyone, himself included.

Purely investigative work? Gesicht replied in kind. He was aware that Section 9 carried out paramilitary operations, of course, but his experience lay primarily with detective work. It would provide the smoothest transition.

Ideally. Somehow, Section 9's "purely investigative work" always seemed to turn into running gunfights. Togusa still wasn't sure if this was the nature of the job, or of his coworkers.

Gesicht would be prepared for other eventualities, then. Humans could get so messy.

But in the meantime, he focused on finding the baggage claim through the crowds.
